The third course teaching Scandinavian log building using round timber.

Roofing geometry on Scandinavian log building using round timber. We will cover:

– Prerequisite to have completed the basic course
– Practical and theoretical introduction to traditional and modern breathable roof constructions suitable to a log built house
– Scribing and cutting wall plate, purlins and ridge
– Scribing and cutting gables

Cost: sliding scale £0 – £500 (5 places)
– 4 places at £500 for five days excluding camping and food
– 1 place at £250 for five days excluding camping and food

You will receive:
Course notes covering theory and practice
The skills to build your own log cabin from scratch
Your very own scandinacian ‘tommestokk’ (ruler stick)

Pre-requisites for the course:
Completed Intro to log building
Chainsaw ticket (cross cut and maintennance minimum)
Appropriate PPE
Practical ability

Bring if you have:
Chainsaw
Spirit level, pencil and measuring tape
Chisel, gouge and mallet
Hewing axe / broad axe / felling axe / etc

Food, accommodation and travel:
The courses all take place at Nantcellan Outdoor Learning and Workshops.

Camping and food is available on site, or cook your own. If a soft bed and central heating is more your bag there are plenty of B&B options nearby.

There are train links to Aberystwyth from anywhere in the UK. From there it’s a half hour bike ride to Nantcellan.
